The issue of legalizing same-sex marriage was hotly debated in Taiwan in the late 2010s. Both the opponents and the supporters of same-sex marriage expressed their opinions in various ways such as protesting outside the Legislative Yuan. On November 24, 2018, citizens voted on ten referendums, three of which were about same-sex marriage. These raised public awareness of gender equality. Hoping that students and faculty members could learn more about this issue, the University of Taipei Library on Tian-Mu Campus created a book display featuring books about gender equality. The books were on display from December 10 to December 28, 2019.
