Dr Wilkinson is an Adjunct Professor in the Department and the Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Glasgow, UK. He was invited to give the opening keynote address to the 3rd International Conference on Pediatrics and Neonatology in Dubai on November 20 this year. The title of his address was Postmodernism, the Education of Young Children and the Global Citizen. The main message in his address was the urgent need to reconfigure young children’s social mind-set in the context of major contemporary socially generated issues facing our planet, viz global warming, pollution and species extinction. He proposed a new approach to children’s learning based on the concept of the ‘inspired child’ emerging as an adult global citizen.
