The theme of this lecture was textbook research. Prof. Zhou explained that the scope of textbook research includes the compilation, intention, content, design, use, and effect of textbooks, which can be developed as research themes. Johnsen's (1993/2001) three directions of textbook research include: 1. process: to study the process of textbook formation and its different stages; 2. instrument: to treat textbooks as a tool and analyze its effects; 3. product: to treat textbooks as a product and study its quality. Through Professor Zhou's explanation, students could clearly understand that textbook is not just a book, but plays an important instrumental role in the process of education and knowledge transfer, and therefore needs to be researched and examined in such an exhaustive manner.
