Talking about the use of excavated documents in the study of ancient books
In this lecture, the teacher started with Wang Guowei's two-fold evidence method, because Wang Guowei's two-fold evidence method advocates the conscious proofreading of unearthed documents and traditional documents, which allows us to further recognize the contents of the traditional documents. The teacher used Wang Niansun's correction of the Huainanzi in his "Journal of Book Reading" to illustrate the common errors in ancient books, such as wrong simplification, misrepresentation, and deletion of the text. ...... The word "proofreading" therefore means to correct the errors and to understand the readings. To complete this proofreading work sometimes in addition to the mutual proofreading between the documents, sometimes we also rely on the help of the excavated documents. The reason why we rely on excavated documents is that they provide clues for proofreading other than those of the traditional documents. Through the teacher's speech today, we can understand the necessity of the excavated documents for us to proofread the traditional documents, and it will also give us another angle of entry to understand the traditional documents.
