Cultivating the soft power of urban regeneration overall planning talents - Family caregivers’ needs and rights protection movement
[In an era of lack of caregivers, can you give up your dreams and career for your family? 】It is a great honor to invite Secretary-General Chen Jingning of the Family Caregiver Association of the Republic of China to give a speech. Secretary-General Chen raised several examples and questions at the beginning of the lecture, such as: Should I go abroad for further study or stay to take care of my mother? Is it better to have family care rather than care services? Is it unfilial to send care recipients to institutions? Who should take care of it? …and other questions, allowing students to think and discuss issues while becoming more interested in today’s speech topic. As times and family structures change, the average household size continues to decline, and there will be fewer and fewer family caregivers. Taiwan is gradually entering an era of super-old age and zero family caregivers, and the pressure on family caregivers will inevitably increase. Although it is more affectionate and warm for family members to provide care, it may also change the original harmonious relationship between family members. Therefore, it may be better for family members to be responsible for psychological companionship and to leave care to professionals. Secretary-General Chen pointed out that people can learn about long-term care 2.0 services in various places. However, although there are long-term care 2.0 services, why are they not often used? In addition to not understanding long-term care services and not knowing how to use them, traditional family concepts and service content also need to be re-examined. Secretary-General Chen also pointed out the contradictions in the current policy through several tragic examples: family members should no longer be praised and encouraged to take on the role of caregivers. This is in conflict with the promotion of long-term care services. Family caregivers are under tremendous pressure. It is precisely because they need support and assistance that support organizations exist. Regardless of the country, community, workplace, family or individual, cooperation from all parties is needed to achieve the friendliest care environment!
