Drawing Empathy—The Application of Picture Books in Enhancing Social Communication Skills for Students with Autism

The diversity and fun of picture books make them a favored medium for all age groups. Through shared reading, students can encounter situations that differ from their life experiences. This workshop aims to help relevant personnel understand the support that students with autism need while reading and provide practical experience in using dialogic reading techniques. These techniques will assist students in understanding their own and others' perspectives, developing mental state vocabulary, and promoting empathy and perspective-taking abilities, ultimately enhancing their social communication skills.
