Public and Private Sector Job Openings
The speaker began by discussing the current era of labour shortages, using the 2023 word of the year, "shortage," as a lens to examine industry conditions and salary trends. They offered a detailed analysis of the disparities in starting salaries for fresh graduates across various industries and academic disciplines, drawing particular attention to the wage gap associated with the highest level of educational attainment. The speaker highlighted that students from the Recreation and Sport Management department possess distinctive advantages, such as management expertise, knowledge of the sports industry, and relevant skills, enabling them to excel in emerging industry trends. The speaker noted that both the minimum wage and average salaries have risen for nine consecutive years. This sustained growth has not only enhanced the appeal of the labour market but has also alleviated concerns about job scarcity. Students were encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities and explore career paths aligned with their interests and strengths. In relation to career fairs, the speaker outlined recent events, including the Friendly Enterprises for Middle-aged and Senior Workers Job Fair and a series of recruitment activities they had personally organised. Additionally, they announced plans to collaborate with the Department of Urban Economics next year to host a small-scale career fair on campus. This initiative aims to provide students from both departments at Taipei City University with direct opportunities to engage with employers. The speaker also introduced a range of job-seeking resources designed to help students identify suitable positions more effectively. They provided a practical demonstration of navigating public and private sector job websites, showcasing how to efficiently search for relevant vacancies. Students were encouraged to utilise these official platforms to uncover promising opportunities. For those considering a career in the public sector, the speaker offered a step-by-step approach. Even if students have not yet passed advanced civil service exams, they could explore initial roles within government agencies to “test the waters” and determine their suitability for this career path. The speaker emphasised that public and private sector job websites offer a wealth of relevant vacancies that are worth exploring. In conclusion, the speaker stressed the importance of making full use of available resources and aligning them with personal abilities and interests to secure a meaningful position in the job market. Students were urged to actively participate in career fairs and recruitment events, expand their professional networks, and broaden their horizons to lay a strong foundation for their future careers.
