Learning Support and Tutoring

The instructor introduced the concepts of teaching strategies for learning support and tutoring, as well as their implementation: 1. “How Much Better” Teaching Strategy:  “Have”: Emphasizes effective teaching, helping students understand how to improve their learning outcomes in class and ensuring that instructional objectives are met. • Diverse: Utilizes diverse assessment methods, encouraging students to employ hands-on activities, portfolios, and various learning activities in future teaching, while valuing the learning process and student feedback. • Differentiated: Explores differentiated instruction methods to help future teachers design teaching and create an inclusive learning environment (e.g., setting up a drawing area suitable for students of all heights to draw). 2. Remedial Education Philosophy:  The Environment Is the Third Teacher: Emphasizes the impact of educational environment design on student motivation, guiding future teachers to stimulate students’ interest in learning through classroom arrangement. • Shifting from “Remediation” to “Support”: Redefining the meaning of remedial instruction, emphasizing the use of positive support to assist students with learning difficulties and avoiding negative labeling. • Integration of Assessment and Instruction: Explaining the central role of assessment in remedial instruction, where instructional activities and assessment complement each other to form a complete learning cycle. 3. Individualized Instruction and Learning Support: • Explain that one-on-one tutoring is most effective: Introduce the advantages of one-on-one instruction in improving student learning outcomes, helping students understand the importance of individualized instruction. • The temporary nature of learning support: Explain that the learning support system is designed to provide short-term support to students, helping them find suitable learning methods, rather than serving as a means of ability grouping. 4. Teacher Professional Development:  Introduction to the three components of lesson planning, classroom observation, and post-lesson reflection: Emphasize the critical role of lesson planning, classroom observation, and post-lesson reflection in teacher professional development, and encourage students to implement these three components during their practicum and in their future teaching.  Handling unexpected situations: Explore strategies for addressing student behavior issues, helping students understand how to communicate effectively with parents, and develop appropriate response plans.
