Mindfulness Theory and Practice

1. Theoretical Presentation: • Introduction to Dr. Kabat-Zinn (founder of MBSR) • Theory and overview of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) • How to shift from ‘action mode’ to ‘being mode’ when thinking • Using ‘mindful awareness’ to establish a new perspective on life 2. Mindfulness Meditation Practice: The instructor will guide students through a 7.5-minute mindfulness meditation practice. 3. Distribution of Mindfulness Cards: Cute illustrations and slogans remind participants how to be mindful of the present moment or practice self-compassion, encouraging students to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives. This lecture focused on the theory and effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and how to integrate mindfulness into daily life: breaking habitual patterns. In addition to explaining the theory, the teacher also led the students in a mindfulness meditation practice, teaching them how to view thoughts as clouds, allowing them to pass by without holding onto them. Finally, the teacher encouraged students to write down pleasant or unpleasant experiences in their daily lives and to notice the present moment of the experience, paying attention to how their body and emotions feel... By using this method to bring attention back to the experience itself rather than reacting out of habit, life might become different.
