2025 Social and Emotional Learning Workshop Using Emotion Cards

The primary objective of this activity was to guide teachers and students in exploring classroom-applicable SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) activities through a card-based approach. The session began with an emotional check-in to spark motivation, allowing participants to share the contexts in which certain feelings arise, their level of comfort with those emotions, and assess the physiological intensity of those emotions. In the second part, the instructor briefly introduced the core elements of SEL and how they align with the early childhood education curriculum, helping participants gain a foundational understanding of social and emotional development. The instructor then shared the development process behind the creation of the “Emotion Detective” card game. Finally, participants were guided through a hands-on experience using the card game and worked in groups to design their own versions of the activity. Throughout the session, the instructor explained the learning goals behind each activity, while also encouraging participants to adapt the rules based on their individual teaching needs. According to the survey results, 100% of participants reported being "very satisfied" with the overall experience. Qualitative feedback from teachers and students indicated that the activity helped enhance self-awareness and expression of emotions, taught how to use board games to help students identify and manage emotions, and provided concrete experience in integrating SEL with the curriculum through play. Many participants suggested offering more sessions or workshops in the future. These types of activities not only support SEL learning but also offer practical strategies for classroom management and teacher-parent-student communication.
