【USR】Integration and Diffusion of Medical-Elderly Care and Higher Education Perspectives: Constructing a Social Prescription and Linking Worker Innovation and Development Hub - Social Prescribing Workshop
This lecture aimed to guide students in understanding the diverse aspects of social welfare systems for people with disabilities and to explore the value of “social prescribing” in promoting mental and social well-being. The course began with theoretical foundations and incorporated practical case studies to help students develop a comprehensive perspective on policy advocacy, cultural equity, and community care. Professor Wang first introduced the differences between the U.S. private healthcare system, the U.K.’s universal healthcare model, and Taiwan’s hybrid system, emphasizing that social welfare is a fundamental right that everyone should enjoy, not merely a form of subsidy or assistance. Next, Dr. Liu shared the concept of “social prescribing,” explaining how activities such as art, cultural engagement, and community involvement can foster psychological well-being and improve the quality of life for the elderly and people with dementia. Finally, Professor Huang presented how museums can serve as platforms for cultural equity and health promotion, showcasing various inclusive designs and innovative programs tailored for individuals with disabilities and dementia. Overall, the course enhanced students’ understanding of welfare systems and interdisciplinary intervention strategies, encouraging them to reflect on how to combine professional knowledge with social empathy in their future work supporting marginalized groups and contributing to public service.
