Technology-Integrated Community Planning Workshop (II) — Digital Neighborhood Co-Creation: Community Life Map

“Technology-Integrated Community Planning Workshop (II)” invited Ho Ya-Ting, founder of Urban Baker, along with Chang Hsueh-Min as assistant, to guide participating students in imagining and visualizing community spaces using a mobile app. The workshop focused on combining technological applications with local revitalization concepts, leveraging augmented reality (AR) technology to help students understand the basic logic of spatial planning and design, while practicing preliminary skills in digital co-creation. The workshop began with an introduction to AR application cases, covering its use in urban planning, architectural design, and cultural preservation. This helped students understand how technology can concretely change the way we perceive and imagine spaces. Following this, the instructors demonstrated the operation of the Urban Baker app, showing students how to overlay simple 3D models and virtual content onto real-world scenes to create “augmented visualizations.” During the hands-on phase, students worked in groups to observe and discuss actual community sites, brainstorming various spatial improvement ideas, including adaptive reuse of old spaces, community greening proposals, and enhancement of recreational functions. Each group used the Urban Baker app to create basic 3D models based on their concepts, projecting them onto real-world locations using the mobile device’s camera function to simulate the post-transformation appearance of the spaces. At the conclusion of the workshop, groups presented their proposals, using the app to showcase street-level visualizations, allowing their ideas to be expressed not only verbally but also in a tangible, visual form. Overall, the workshop integrated technology and design thinking, guiding students to explore spatial potential in real-world settings while developing teamwork, creative ideation, and digital tool proficiency, offering an innovative learning experience that combined theory with practical application.
