【Master’s Program Off-site Teaching】Two-Day, One-Night Environmental Education Field
Overview This activity targeted students from three courses I currently instruct within the Master’s Program in Environmental Education. I led the students to Toucheng Leisure Farm in Yilan for a two-day, one-night off-site teaching session focused on practical observation and exchange in environmental education (EE). Core Methodology All three participating courses share "Lesson Plan Design" and "Activity Facilitation" as their core focus. Through an immersive experience in a single venue, students were guided to complete a rapid learning cycle of "Observation — Deconstruction — Reflection — Redesign." Regarding the schedule, although the event spanned two days and one night, it was calculated to replace one week of instructional hours per course to ensuring the reasonableness of the teaching load. Course Alignment & Learning Objectives 1st-Year Master’s Students (Curriculum Development): The focus was on guiding students to familiarize themselves with the lesson design process and to interact with a government-certified Environmental Education Field. The goal was to understand how certified venues prepare educational resources, apply curricular thinking, and maintain quality standards. Toucheng Leisure Farm, centering on sustainable agriculture, combines agri-food education, forest ecology, and multi-sensory experiences. It utilizes the SDGs as a framework for developing EE programs, providing students with concrete, comparative design examples and material for discussion. 2nd-Year Master’s Students (Instructional Materials and Methods): The learning priority was "Identifying what makes a good EE activity." Beyond participation, students were required to deconstruct the teaching strategies behind the activities—analyzing learning objectives, learning processes, experience design, and reflective guidance. They then worked to transform these insights into reusable lesson plan elements (e.g., context setting, inquiry design, facilitation prompts, worksheets, and assessment methods). Itinerary Highlights The schedule emphasized the combination of theory and practice, deep immersion, multi-sensory learning, and reflection. Key activities included: Presentation on the Farm’s Sustainable Development and Practices. Accommodation and Group Living Experience. Earth Volunteer Day & Seasonal Flavor Exploration (Five Senses Experience). Forest Dining Table & Ecological Course. Nighttime Ecological Observation. Next-Day Eco-Guided Tour & Instructional Interaction. Sharing of Teaching Insights & Lesson Concept Discussions.
