"From Soundscapes to Water Sounds: An Environmental Journey for the Senses" Micro-credit Course Outcome Presentation & Poster Exhibition
In 2025, the College of Science proudly presented the achievement showcase and poster exhibition for the micro-credit course, "From Soundscape to Underwater Sound: An Environmental Journey Opening the Senses." This interdisciplinary program was designed to help students rediscover their surroundings by blending scientific rigor with sensory perception. The course took students on a three-stage progressive journey: 1. Physics in Action: Under the guidance of Instructor Lin Kuei-Hui, students used mobile apps to measure the speed of sound via clapping. This experiment allowed them to deduce environmental conditions through data analysis, turning abstract physics concepts into tangible scientific proof. 2. Field Exploration: Led by Instructor Chen Chien-Chih, students traveled to the Yuanshan Shell Mound, Shezi Island, and Chuhuangkeng Farm. Amidst historical ruins, mangroves, and forests, they collected soundscapes—analyzing the mix of aircraft noise, water flow, and insect chirps to understand the balance between urban growth and ecology. 3. Community & Citizen Science: In collaboration with the "Green Bookstore" in Zhonghe-Yonghe, students participated in a reality puzzle game and ecological walk along the Wayaogou. They used storytelling to find historical sites and performed water quality tests, investigating the effects of household wastewater on local rivers.
