【2025 Intensive Mandarin Program】Outdoor Cultural Class - Pineapple Cake Making

On March 26, 2025, Teacher Huang Si-tong from the Regular Intensive Chinese Program and Teacher Chen Zhi-hao from the International Office took international students to the Pineapple Cake Dream Factory of Wei Ke Bakery in Wugu, New Taipei City, to participate in a fun pineapple cake-making experience. The activity began with students hands-on making pineapple cakes. Following the guidance of professional instructors, they assembled the dough and filling step by step, using molds to shape the dough into shapes such as ingots, Taiwan, and pineapples. The process was both simple and fun. Everyone was excited and intrigued by making pineapple cakes, and through this hands-on experience, they gained a deeper understanding of the craft of pineapple cake production. During this process, students realized that each pineapple cake is made with professional skills and meticulous handcraft, which made them appreciate this classic Taiwanese snack even more. While waiting for the pineapple cakes to bake, the tour guide introduced the students to the different types of Taiwanese pineapples, their growing environment, and related knowledge. The students listened attentively and were able to observe the actual production process through a glass window in the factory. Through this observation and learning, they not only gained a deeper understanding of the background of pineapple cakes but also developed a more comprehensive knowledge of the Taiwanese pineapple industry. From selecting pineapples to the production process in the factory, every detail amazed them. This was not only a hands-on experience but also a cultural exploration. At the end of the activity, everyone took a photo with the large pineapple art installation in the factory and purchased several unique-flavored pineapple cakes as souvenirs. The students were very satisfied with the event because they not only learned how to make pineapple cakes but also experienced Taiwan's unique culture and delicious flavors. It was a valuable experience that deepened their appreciation and love for Taiwanese food culture.
