University of Taipei Department of Health and Welfare: Field Visit to the Laboratory of the Taipei City Health Bureau

On May 29, 2025, Dr. Yung-Jen Chen led a group of students to the Laboratory of the Taipei City Health Bureau for an on-site visit. Sanitary inspection serves as the frontline for safeguarding food safety and public health. This activity aimed to provide students with an understanding of how government agencies implement health management policies through scientific testing techniques. During the visit, laboratory professionals provided detailed introductions to specialized labs for food chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and microbiology, showcasing various precision testing instruments. Students gained deep insights into the standard operating procedures (SOP), from sample reception and rigorous analysis to the generation of final reports. They also discussed how testing data is translated into the basis for administrative penalties or policy-making. This visit not only strengthened students' professional knowledge of food safety but also allowed them to appreciate the indispensable role and value of sanitary inspection in protecting public health.
