114 Years of USR - Heartfelt Dialogue - Helping People with Disabilities Find the Power of Dialogue

Lecturer: Hsiao Chun-Yu, Psychologist This lecture continues last week's "Truth or Dare Cards" series, presented by the same psychologist with extensive clinical and family support experience. Participants will learn through "Affectionate Dialogue Cards" to develop deeper, more aware, and supportive communication skills in relationships. The psychologist points out that families caring for people with disabilities often experience fragile and difficult communication due to excessive stress, emotional exhaustion, and uneven role burdens. Guided by 42 scenario cards and a dialogue journey board, participants will begin with everyday situations, gradually becoming aware of their inner voice, needs, and expectations. They will also practice how to engage in affectionate emotional communication with themselves and others in a gentle and respectful manner. The course is structured into five activities: "Words to Yourself," "Words to Yourself in Different Times," "Single Dialogue Journey," "Two-Person Dialogue Journey," and "Free Writing for Deep Awareness." Through structured steps such as "Situation → Inner Voice → What I Want to Say to Myself → I Need You to Say to Me," participants repeatedly switch between self- and other-perspectives, gaining a renewed understanding of themselves and others through self-exploration and emotional simulation. The psychologist emphasizes, "Deep dialogue is not about reopening old wounds, but about returning relationships to a place of love and support." The entire course not only allows participants to engage in deep awareness in a safe and unexposed environment, but also enables educators to bring this dialogue model back to their families, schools, and professional settings, making it an important tool for promoting communication, repairing relationships, and fostering mental health.
