Taipei Municipal University USR Hub Project --- Hualien-Taitung Micro-Light Project: Indigenous cultural experience plus sports protection courses + scientific physical fitness experience
The "Hualien-Taitung Micro-Light Project" aims to bridge the urban-rural gap in sports education, training resources, and health literacy in the Hualien-Taitung area through professional sports science expertise. The project serves approximately 100 elementary and junior high school students in Taitung with high athletic potential, covering sports such as baseball, judo, weightlifting, and track and field. The project travels to schools, with a professional team of teachers and teaching assistants providing three hours of interdisciplinary courses and hands-on experiences. Students are exposed to sports science, health education, and local culture in a familiar environment. The curriculum is divided into three main themes. First, the "Local Characteristic Training Course" combines indigenous culture and forest living wisdom, designing activities including animal footprint identification, hunting scenario simulation, traditional skill practice (such as archery and spear throwing), and cultural rhythmic exercises. This allows students to understand traditional cultural values through physical activities and improve their physical coordination and specialized abilities. Secondly, the "Sports Protection and Self-Care Course" teaches students about common sports injuries and strengthens their sports safety awareness and basic protective abilities through demonstrations of the RICE principle, simple bandaging, protective gear use, and warm-up and cool-down exercises. Thirdly, the "Scientific Physical Fitness Experience Activities" are based on core fitness items such as cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition, combined with fun challenges like agility and standing long jump, allowing students to understand their own physical condition in a relaxed atmosphere and establish health management concepts. Through a combination of sports science education, cultural outreach, and hands-on practice, this program not only provides students in rural areas with opportunities for diverse learning but also helps teachers and parents understand students' current physical fitness and training needs. It is hoped that through this localized initiative, a foundation for sports literacy cultivation and talent development in the Hualien and Taitung areas can be gradually established, promoting health equality and strengthening urban-rural exchange and collaborative learning models.
